What is the Speaking Club?

A community of language learners all on the same journey that we call English. Make new friends, learn about other cultures and experiences. Share your ideas and respect those of others.

Small groups.
Group size 4 people max. This allows everyone to speak and creates an environment of trust. Groups are also carefully selected at levels B1, B2, C1/C2 so no one feels lost or not challenged.

Teacher guided.
In my role as teacher, I will elicit conversations and encourage interaction. I am there to give feedback and correct your mistakes. The majority of speaking, however, will be student to student.
When does it take place?
The first meeting is on 6th September and the times shown are the same every week.

Hey! I’m Jo, your speaking coach.
I’m a certified British English teacher currently living in Barcelona. In 2010, I began my own language journey with Spanish and I became fascinated by how we express ourselves across different cultures. I teach English online to people from all over the world and I love helping them achieve their goals.

All Speaking Club meetings take place online on Google Meet. You choose how you want to connect.

Frequently Asked Questions.
When does The Speaking Club start and finish?
The Speaking Club starts on Monday 6th September 2021 and doesn’t have an end date. Meetings are weekly and you can join on a monthly, bi-annual or annual subscription.
How do I know which group to join?
When you sign up I will schedule a free 15-minute call with you to assign you a group. The groups are carefully selected in this way to ensure that you are joining the correct group for your level so that no one feels out of their depth or on the other hand unchallenged. As time goes on, I will suggest when you are ready to move up a group.
How many people are in the groups?
The maximum group sizes are 4 people. This gives everyone a chance to speak and creates an environment of trust.
What happens after I subscribe?
After joining The Speaking Club, you will receive an introduction email from Jo to schedule a date for the free video call to check your level and assign you to the correct group. Please allow up to 24 hours from making the booking. Thanks!
What do I need to participate in The Speaking Club?
Firstly, a fast internet connection is essential. Secondly, you can choose to join the sessions from a computer, tablet or smartphone. A computer is recommended but mobile devices can also work well, depending on your needs. The meetings take place on Google Meet, which is free and easy to use, just join from an email link. The use of headphones is also highly recommended to block out any background noise and get the most out of your online experience. In addition, the following things will also be very helpful to bring along; a sense of humour, learning English should be fun; patience, learning a language can be a long and sometimes frustrating process but don’t give up; an open mind, you will be required to respect other people’s opinions, ideas and cultural differences.
How do the subscription plans work?
There are two types of subscription plan, BASIC and PRO. The Basic Plan gives you access to 1 Speaking Club meeting a week. On the Pro Plan, you will be able to attend 2 meetings a week.
You’ll be charged every month, every 6 months or every year depending on which subscription plan you choose. The longer the subscription, the cheaper each meeting becomes. Compare €9.75/hour for the Monthly Basic subscription to €6.25/hour for the Annual Pro subscription.
What happens if I can’t attend a lesson at the scheduled time?
The Speaking Club is a subscription service so unfortunately if you miss a session no refund will be given. It may be possible to join another session that week if there is space in the group, however, this is not guaranteed.
What if I join The Speaking Club but change my mind after attending the first meeting?
I’m confident you’ll enjoy your experience in The Speaking Club community. However, if you decide it’s not right for you after the first meeting I’ll refund your subscription fee. Refund applications must be made within 24 hours of first attending your first meeting.

The sessions take place in the morning and evening at GMT +02 hours. Please check your time zone here.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can manage your subscription in your customer account. If you cancel your subscription you’ll still have access to The Speaking Club until your subscription expires. If you would like to change your subscription, cancel your current plan, wait for it to expire and then choose the new plan.
