Phrasal verbs…love them or hate them?
Here at Speak English with Jo, we LOVE phrasal verbs and I want you to love them too. The first step is to accept that they are a huge part of the English language and will benefit your progress greatly as a listener and speaker of English. Secondly, it’s important to have fun with them and enjoy learning them. Treat them like any other new word and not a huge challenge to overcome.
That’s why I’d like to introduce you to Phrasal Verb Fridays. Every Friday, I will send an email straight to your inbox with a new topic for the week and 3 new phrasal verbs. The aim is to master phrasal verbs bit by bit in a way that doesn’t feel stressful and creates a sense of community…we are all in it together! Are you going to join us?

My top 3 tips for learning English.
The best way to learn any language is to completely immerse yourself in it. Eat, sleep and breathe English. Make it a part of your daily routine. Read out loud every day and choose something related to a subject that interests you. Watch TV series with the audio in English. Set your phone language to English. Play games in English. Practise speaking on a regular basis.
As the old saying goes, practice really does makes perfect. Repetition is key and it takes consistent practice to learn a language well. The more you repeat something, the more automatic and natural it becomes. Repetition applies to all the skills of language but it’s particularly important when it comes to speaking and listening.
The more you enjoy doing something, the more you will learn organically. Don’t take your relationship with English too seriously and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Learn to laugh at yourself, even native speakers make mistakes and they are actually an important part of the learning process. Relax and have fun with the language.
What’s your learning style?
We are all different and we all learn in different ways. That’s why it’s important to identify our learning style in order to get the most out of our language experience. For example, I am a visual learner, if I don’t see a word written down, I find it very difficult to remember. Have you ever wondered what kind of learner you are? Take the quiz to find out if you learn through seeing, listening & speaking or by doing. This will really help us build a learning programme that’s tailored to your individual needs.

“Jo is an amazing tutor, positive and friendly the lessons go at my pace but she knows when to push me and when to be patient. I always look forward to our lessons. The content is varied and fun and I come away feeling like I’ve got a lot out of each hour.”
Luyi, China.
“Teacher Joanne is one of the best teachers I’ve ever met. She’s patient, energetic and cares about her students. During the class, she explains everything clearly and uses a lot of real-life examples to help me understand the materials. Moreover, she also tells me about the local culture, which makes me feel more connected to that country. She’s a teacher who not only teaches you language but also gives you a chance to find the enjoyment of learning and start to love that language. I would highly recommend her to those who are trying to learn English but not sure who to study with.”
Alan, Spain.
"A great teacher. Very happy in my progression. In my case, I was looking for progression on a specific sector due to my work. Probably for her it is a sector that perhaps she didn't know well, and she has been involved in knowing it so that I can progress adequately."
Iban, Barcelona.
“Jo is an experienced teacher. She makes the classes pleasant, fun and you can learn so much. She has adapted to my features and she has found my deficiencies in English learning. She has focused the classes rightly for improve my listening, reading, writing and speaking. I’m very happy about my progress thanks to her.”
